Natural Tips For Glowing Skin…

Natural Tips For Glowing SkinMany people believe genetics determine the fate of skin. It is true that we “inherit” certain qualities from our parents. However, you still have the power to influence the beauty and health of your skin through your lifestyle.

Of course, a healthy diet is the number one way to improve your skin. However, you do not have to become fruitarian, vegan, or vegetarian to see results. The following dietary tips will help heal your skin within one month:

1. Drink at least one but ideally two liters of water 1st thing in the morning and wait at least one hour before eating.

2. If you have to drink juice, do not drink it while eating anything other than fruit.

3. Reduce your soda intake by 50%, if you cannot eliminate it altogether.

4. Never eat fruit with fat or anything else! Even if you are eating avocado, you must avoid eating it with other fruit. A little tomato in your salad or guacamole is okay.

5. Hold the cheese. If you must eat it, do not drink anything while you do. Cheese is tough enough to digest without adding a different substance into your system.

6. In general, avoid eating and drinking at the same time.

7. Fermentation is the biggest factor when it comes to skin issues. I will cover this in more detail in another post. To avoid serious fermentation; eat fruit separate from other food categories and follow the tips listed above.

With so many skin care options in stores, people are often confused about which products they should buy. Which lotion should I use to moisturize? What can I do about my acne? How should I treat my eczema?

Our skin is our body’s largest organ and it absorbs everything. In fact, everything you put on your skin absorbs into your bloodstream. So you really want to be careful about the products that you use. My favorite quote is, “If you can’t eat it, don’t put it on your skin.”

Top Five Products To Improve Skin

1. Install a shower filter to protect  your skin from chlorine and chlorides. Besides damaging your skin, these chemicals harm the respiratory system, when you inhale your shower steam. You will notice a huge difference in the way your skin feels when you filter the water.

I am no expert in this area but it seems that any KDF filter will work. I have tried several shower filters; New Wave Enviro, Crystal Quest, Cuzn and Sprite. They were all decent; however, I remember having to exchange the Cuzn early due to a crack.

For the last year, I have been using the Sprite HOC.  I paid a little more for it because the reviews were good and after years of dealing with white plastic filters, I opted for a sturdier and better looking chrome. Now I see that Crystal Quest is offering the chrome and with the sale, it is half of what I paid for Sprite. All the brands claim to last about a year (or 30,000 gallons) but Sprite seems to last the longest.

2.  I use 100% Shea butter on my skin. Because it is so rich, a little goes a long way. Here are some of its many benefits:

a. Treatment of dry skin, eczema, and milder burns.

b. Pain relief from swelling and arthritis.

c. Improves muscle relaxation and stiffness.

d. Sunscreen, due to its rich content of vitamins E & F.

e. Treats dark spots, skin discolorations, stretch marks,                             wrinkles and blemishes.

f. Use for massages, diaper rash, and as a hair conditioner.

3. Natural oils like olive, coconut and grape-seed  oil make great skin moisturizers.

4. Sea Moss (Irish Moss) applied to the outside of the skin is beneficial for sunburns, psoriasis and eczema. It also makes a great moisturizer.  When taken internally, sea moss increases the elasticity of the skin.

5. All natural soaps like olive oil, Shea butter and glycerin are ideal for your skin. You’ll feel great relief from your itchy skin if you switch from the scented commercial brands.

Seven Things To Avoid For Healthy Skin

1. Deodorant:  Okay, I know this is a tough one but at least stop using antiperspirants.  Our armpits are the vehicle in which our lymphatic system eliminates toxins. However, most people block the process with antiperspirants.  Alternatives: aluminum-free and/or propylene-glycol free deodorants.

Remember, the underarm odor is a direct indication of the filth within. We would not have these odors without acids, calcified mucus and fermentation in our bodies.

2. Chemical Bug repellent: This stuff is highly toxic! Alternatives: my favorite is Lemongrass oil. However, Citronella, Eucalyptus, Lavender, Orange, Rosemary and Thyme are also known to repel insects. You will definitely need to dilute the pure essential oils with grape-seed, coconut or olive oil. Even 1/5th bottle of essential oil mixed with 4/5th olive oil makes a strong repellent.

3. Chlorine: I really feel for those who swim in this stuff. Swimming is an awesome exercise and a great joy but this stuff is toxic. At least try to cut your intake by purchasing a shower filter. Those with severe skin issues should avoid washing laundry in bleach.

4. Face creams with chemicals: I know there are all natural alternatives in your local Whole Foods or health food store but I do not use any. I currently use Shea butter soap and Shea butter on my entire body. Another favorite for my face is The Fig Tree’s Eva Salve.

5. Lotion with chemicals: Words like Phenoxyethanol are a good indication that it is not an all natural product. Alternatives: Most of the alternative lotions seem to be over priced. I think Nubian might be a less expensive brand.

6. Sunscreen with chemicals: I have read articles claiming that the sunscreen itself caused skin cancer. Alternatives: Shea butter is the only natural sunscreen that I am aware of.

7. Vaseline: It is petroleum!  This is marketed as a healing product but those claims are unsubstantiated. There are many chemicals listed in the ingredients that may cause cancer. It is also so thick that it clogs the pores, blocks oxygen from the cells and prevents toxins from exiting the skin. Alternatives: Live Clean makes a non-petroleum jelly that contains three plant-based ingredients.

Of course hormones and the environment affect the skin but these tips will, when followed regularly, will produce excellent results.
